Making Beam.gg More User-Friendly, Engaging, and Accessible

Product Update

We have been absolutely overwhelmed with all the support and feedback we’ve gotten from our community these last few months. During this time, the team worked quietly on our product, taking into consideration everything we’ve learned from our community in terms of design, user experience, and functionality.

We haven’t had the chance to write new feature announcements for a while, but no worries! We’re back on track and ready to give you a summary of our latest product updates, covering major features and improvements launched over the last couple of months.

Let’s get started!

TL;DR
  • You can now set up your custom domain directly from your dashboard.
  • The community builder and dashboard are now both accessible on mobile.
  • Admins and moderators can now approve user-generated content before they go live.
  • You can now restrict member registrations and approve member sign-ups.
  • Community members now have the option to leave the community and delete their account.
  • Additional content formatting options now supported on the Beam editor.

Set up your own custom domain quick and easy

The time for manual requests is over! You can now set up your domain preferences directly from the Beam Dashboard. Move your online community to your own domain, and engage members under your own brand in just a few steps!

How it works

Go to Platform Settings > Custom Domain and enter your preferred domain. Click "Add Domain" to generate a set of CNAME records that you can enter on your DNS settings.

Once you've updated your records, go back to the Beam Dashboard and check the status of your domain.  Keep reading →

Enjoy a mobile community experience

No need to have your laptop with you all the time! You can now access the Beam Dashboard and Community Builder from any mobile device.

  • Mobile Dashboard
Manage your Beam.gg account and subscription directly from your mobile.
  • Mobile Builder
Have the option to build your community with Beam.gg anytime, anywhere.

Moderate your community content

With Beam.gg's new Content Approval feature, admins and moderators can now review all pending posts, and decide whether or not they should appear on the community feed.

  • Content Approval allows you to moderate which posts can appear in the main feed. You can decide to enable or disable this setting for your community.
  • Depending on the type of community you run, Content Approval may help keep topics and discussions on track.
  • If you are going to use Content Approval, be sure to review pending posts quickly to let members feel heard.

How it works

  • Enable Restricted Submissions
Restricting submissions will allow you to moderate content in your community before they are posted. You can do this regardless if you have a private or a public community. To turn this on, just go to Platform Settings > Platform Visibility.
  • Moderate member posts
To see all of your pending posts, just go to the Community Manager > Content Approval. Here, you'll be able to see a preview of the posts and take action on content submissions.

Introducing Member Approval

Have you always wanted to keep your community exclusive? Now it's possible with our Member Approval feature! Enable restricted registrations and choose which members to accept or decline.

How it works

  • Enable Restricted Registrations
Restricting registrations will allow you to moderate the people who sign-up and have access to your community. You can do this regardless if you have a private or a public community. To turn this on, just go to Platform Settings > Platform Visibility.
  • Whitelist Emails and Domains
Have the option to pre-approve specific emails and domains by adding them to your community's whitelist. If any user signs-up using the email address or domain you've identified, their request will automatically be approved.

  • Moderate Sign-Up Requests
To see all of your sign-up requests, just go to the Community Manager > Member Approval. Here, you'll be able to take action on sign-up requests and filter them based on pending, approved, and denied status.

Give your members more control over their personal data

We know how important it is to give members more control over their data, and that's why we've launched our new Account Deletion feature! Now, you have the option to permanently delete any unused account. This helps make sure there’s a way for members to reduce their digital footprint and prevent any future abuse to their personal data.

How it works

Go to User Settings, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm your decision a few times to avoid accidental account deletions. Once you’ve completed all the steps, your account will be permanently deleted.

Enjoy more formatting options

Make your content more engaging with code block and iframe embeds — now both supported on Beam.gg’s text editor!

How it works

  • Code Block
For inline code blocks in a paragraph, just highlight the specific text and press the code block function </> on the Beam Editor toolbar.

Inline code is great to use when you want to highlight a short snippet of code (for example: the definition of a function or the name of a variable) inside a paragraph. Alternatively, you can also use this feature to highlight snippets of information. Like this 👇

  • Iframe Embeds
While editing your post, go to a new line and paste the iframe code of the content that you want to embed. No need to use the code block function on the editor; copy pasting the code will work just fine!

For example: To insert a Twitch livestream in-line, click the share button on the source and copy paste the code provided. Your embed will become interactive once you've pasted the code.

If the service you're embedding content from is supported on Beam.gg, the link will change into an embed. If the service is not supported, the editor will show an error message on the preview card.

Links from Youtube and Vimeo can be copy pasted directly into the editor without the embed code.

What’s next for Beam.gg?

For some time now, we’ve been talking about implementing Member Subscriptions on Beam.gg to help owners monetize their community. Implementing this also gives members a way to support communities, and receive special perks and incentives in return. It’s a major feature we have lined up in our roadmap, and we’re really excited to have it on the platform soon!
